The Compliance Cliff
Why 82% of firms believe they could be off-track for the EU PPWR’s August 2026 requirements
Our recent webinar poll of 45 industry professionals revealed a striking snapshot of current sentiment: Fewer than 1 in 5 organizations expect to be fully ready for the initial requirements of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) by the August 2026 deadline.
While these results serve as an industry “pulse check” rather than a statistically significant global study, they highlight a consistent concern across sectors. Navigating the first wave of these mandates demands significant time, technical expertise, and operational capacity. Despite this, nearly half of our respondents indicated that their organization is currently attempting to manage the transition entirely in-house.
At first glance, relying solely on internal teams may appear to be a cost-efficient approach. But with official guidance still to come, extensive data demands, and the risk of substantial penalties for non-compliance, a critical question emerges:
Will internal-only resourcing be enough to enable businesses to meet their regulatory requirements?
So, how should businesses bridge that gap?
Alba González Pérez, our Regulatory Advisory Lead, explains the ECOFACT approach:
“We often get asked how we differ from a standard news service or an AI tool. It comes down to three things that a software dashboard simply cannot do:
- Interpretation over information: Anyone can send you a PDF of a new law. At ECOFACT, we tell you what it means specifically for your business.
- The human filter: While AI is a powerful tool, our clients value human discretion as the foundation of our information and advisory services. Our consultants look at the nuances of jurisdictional variance that algorithms still miss. You get more than just data; you get professional advice you can stand behind.
- Multi-disciplinary support: The PPWR sits at the messy intersection of law and environmental science. We bring both to the table. Whether it’s a legal expert helping you navigate penalties or an environmental specialist looking at material recyclability, we provide a 360-degree view that internal teams rarely have the breadth to cover alone.”
The bottom line?
The clock is ticking toward August 2026. If you are part of the 82% still finding their footing, you don’t have to navigate the complexity alone.
